SSMU recruits Liam Neeson for dangerous Walksafe/Drivesafe requests
This weekend, the Students’ Society of McGill University’s (SSMU) Walksafe and Drivesafe services will welcome their first ever non-volunteer after contracting actor Liam Neeson to handle unusually dangerous requests.
“I know I speak for Walksafe as well when I say that Liam will fill a crucial need for us,” said Drivesafe President Joy Q. Wang (U4 Anatomy & Cell Biology). “We’re extremely grateful for the work that our volunteers put in, but none of them have the ‘particular set of skills’ that would come in handy if, lets say, we got a call from a student being kidnapped by international criminals on the way home from Muzique. Having someone that’s read scripts and has acted out those kinds of scenarios will really enrich our ability to support students. Hopefully our volunteers will learn a thing or two from him.”
Bringing Neeson aboard represents a larger victory for SSMU as well.
“It’s part of our mandate to provide outstanding services, and I don’t think you can do any more for students’ safety than offering them the protection of the world’s preeminent action star,” said SSMU President Courtney Ayukawa. “We did extensive research on Liam’s IMDB page and were extremely lucky to find a window where so many of his films are in post-production.”
Although the exact figure of Neeson’s salary hasn’t yet been released, SSMU VP Clubs & Services Stefan Fong has already begun the process of drafting a question for the Winter Referendum Period that would establish a Liam Neeson student fee if passed.
